Your patients may feel sensitive about how ostomy surgery has changed their bodies, but meaningful and fulfilling intimate encounters can still be part of their lives.

Depending on which research you believe, women think about sex on average 8 times a day, while for men it’s every 7 seconds. So, why is sex such a taboo subject when it comes to stomas? In this webinar, leading Psychosexual Nurse Specialist Lorraine Grover talks about Sex, Stomas and Silence. Examining how healthcare professionals can break the silence and advising when’s the right time to start conversations about sex and intimacy.
Lorraine Grover is a Psychosexual Nurse Specialist whose passion, for over 25 years, has been to help improve the way sexuality and sexual function is managed within healthcare.
With a diploma in psychosexual therapy, Lorraine has worked in the NHS, providing nurse-led erectile dysfunction clinics. As well as being Treasurer and Trustee of the Sexual Advice Association and Specialist Advisor to Macmillan Cancer Support, Prostate Cancer UK and Cancer Research UK, Lorraine now provides a private consultation service and regularly lectures nationally to patient groups and healthcare professionals.
Together we can break the silence of having a stoma, discussing sex and being intimate.
Your patients may feel sensitive about how ostomy surgery has changed their bodies, but meaningful and fulfilling intimate encounters can still be part of their lives. Having an ostomy shouldn't stop someone from having a sex life and enjoying intimacy with a partner.
